Radio Merit Badge – Camp Elmore

Radio Merit Badge – Camp Elmore

Last Saturday (06/24/2023), we enjoyed spending some time with the local Boy Scouts of America, allowing them to receive their Radio Merit Badge. As you will see in the pictures, the weather was great, and the attitude the kids brought with them was even better.

We had so much fun that we are already planning the next Radio Merit Badge sometime in September, and in October, we will be joining the Scouts at Camp Elmore again for JOTA.

At this point, I want to thank Mike Same (KF4ZW), Howard Alexanders (KM4TMW), and David Pomerantz (KO4DKN) for volunteering at this event with me. We made a great team, and I look forward to many more of these events.

Below is a video of Mike Sam (KF4ZW) demonstrating on how to use a radio. The kids have just learned about the different bands, and now it is time to see what it is all about.

  • I am so proud of the Palmetto Amateur Radio Club’s involvement with the Boyscouts and obtaining their Merit Badges. It is an exciting and worthwhile endeavor that is long overdue for our community and I am glad to see that a club is picking up the slack!! Kudos to the PARC Ham Team that donated their time and equipment to usher in another generation of hams. Thank you.

  • Thank you, Melanie. We had a great time, and there are already two more events planned with the Boy Scouts. I am really grateful for our members. It was a great event.

  • The South Florida Council and the Boy Scouts of America want to thank the Palmetto Amateur Radio Club and their great staff for volunteering a Saturday and providing this great opportunity for our Scouts. The time spent sharing your vast knowledge of radios, communication and the world of Ham Radio was awesome! All our Scouts – both girls and boys had a blast talking with folks near and far over the radio and may have found a new lifelong hobby!
