SUMMARY:APRS Day Out 2026
DESCRIPTION:APRS Day Out 2026\n  \nSponsored by Daytona Beach Amateur Radio Association\n\nWhen: February 13-15 2026\nWhere: Hamcation – Orlando\, FL\nFrequency 147.585\nAPRS Path TEMP1-1\nMore Info\n\nThe Daytona Beach Amateur Radio Association is putting an APRS “Day Out” digipeater on the air to cover the fairgrounds during Hamcation 2026. We hope that you will join the event network by tuning your APRS radio to 147.585 and using the path of TEMP1-1. \nWhat should you do?\n\nJoin the Network! (See radio configuration below)\nSend out a CQ message (Group message) and say hello\nShare Hamcation-related information through APRS bulletins\nMonitor your radio’s APRS messages for incoming information\n\nHow to configure your radio\n\nConfigure your Yaesu FT5\nConfigure your Kenwood D74/75\n\nAPRS Day Out is the brainchild of Bob Bruninga\, WB4APR/sk. In his words\, “The purpose of the APRS Day out is to test our skills at forming ad-hoc networks in ham radio for use at events and disasters. APRS is ideal for coordination communications among portable VHF and UHF stations and roving vehicles. Of course\, stations and rovers have nearly perfect connectivity using the existing national APRS network on the established national channel of 144.39. But this channel is usually overloaded with other stations\, vulnerable to power and internet outages\, and it is hard to see who is involved in the event among the other thousands of permanent users there. To see only the other stations in the event\, stations can use APRS on the national HamIM channel of 147.585 as a temporary ad-hoc APRS channel. The only stations on that frequency will be other real-time participants.” \nReference: http://www.aprs.org/APRS-day-out.html \nThanks to N2EDX & KA4UPW for maintaining the day out digipeater during Hamcation.
